An ear cuff is a piece of ear jewelry that wraps around the edge of the cartilage instead of going through a hole. It is also called an ear wrap, a cartilage cuff or a fake piercing. It is shaped like a slightly open ring: the opening lets you slide it onto the thinnest part of your ear, then it stays in place with gentle pressure.

How do you put on an ear cuff without a piercing?
This is the question we hear most often in our boutique. The good news: you never need to force it. It takes two or three tries, then it becomes second nature.
- Find the thinnest part of your ear. It is usually the middle of the outer edge, slightly above the ear canal. The cartilage is thinner there than at the top.
- Slide the ear cuff through its opening onto that thin part, from the outside in, without pulling the ring apart.
- Move it up or down gently along the edge to the height you like. It locks itself where the cartilage gets thicker.
- Adjust if needed. If it slips, squeeze it very lightly between thumb and index finger. If it pinches, open it ever so slightly. Do this once, gently: metal does not like being bent back and forth.
- To take it off, follow the same path in reverse: bring it back to the thin part, then slide it out.
Our tip: the first time, put it on in front of a mirror with your hair tied back. After that, you will do it with your eyes closed.
Where should you wear your ear cuff?
The outer ear has several areas, shown clearly in the Wikipedia article on the auricle: the helix (the outer rim), the concha (the hollow in the center), the tragus and the lobe. An ear cuff sits on the rim, but the height changes everything.

Does a no piercing ear cuff really stay on? Does it hurt?
Yes, it stays on, as long as it is well placed. A well-fitted ear cuff does not move when you walk, turn your head or carefully take off a sweater. Our customers wear theirs all day long.
It should not hurt. If it pinches, it is too tight or sitting on a thicker part of the cartilage. Move it down a little, or open it very slightly. Feeling it a little during the first hours is normal, just like with a new ring.
A few tips for perfect comfort:
- take it off to sleep, so it does not bend on the pillow;
- take it off for intense sport and under a helmet or tight hat;
- switch ears from time to time if you wear it every day;
- if your skin is very sensitive, start with a few hours, then build up gradually.
What about size? Unlike a ring, you do not need to know your ring size: an ear cuff fits most ears thanks to its opening.

How do you care for your ear cuff?
Surgical stainless steel, also known as 316L, is highly resistant to corrosion, which is why it is used in medicine and marine environments, as the Wikipedia article on stainless steel explains. That is why our ear cuffs can go in the shower and will not tarnish. This is waterproof jewelry, and a few simple habits will keep it beautiful for longer:
- rinse with fresh water after the sea or the pool, then dry with a soft cloth;
- apply perfume and lotion before your jewelry, never after;
