Bracelet perle Unique doré : une perle naturelle blanche sur une chaîne de perles dorées, fond blanc

Pearl Bracelet: Which Style Should You Choose?

Choose a pearl bracelet first by your style and your wrist: a delicate single pearl for every day, a pearl strand for elegance, pearls mixed with natural gemstones for colour. Then check three things: real natural freshwater pearls with a beautiful luster, a metal that won't tarnish and an adjustable length. To learn more about the different types of pearls, read our guide to pearl jewelry.

Pearl bracelet: which style should you choose?

Before looking at price or colour, ask yourself how you will wear it. Every day, from morning to night? For special occasions? Stacked with other bracelets? The answer points you straight to the right family of bracelets.

Our natural freshwater pearl bracelets

Unique gold-tone pearl bracelet, one natural freshwater pearl on a beaded gold chain

Unique
One pearl, to wear every day.

Duo bracelet, half natural freshwater pearls, half gold-tone chain

Duo
Half pearls, half chain, goes with everything.

Élisa bracelet with flat round natural freshwater pearls and gold-tone beads

Océane gold-tone Cuban chain bracelet with a natural freshwater pearl

Océane
A Cuban chain softened by a pearl.

Here are the four main families, from the most discreet to the boldest:

  • The single pearl bracelet: a fine chain and one pearl. The easiest to wear, even if you have never worn pearls before.
  • The pearl strand: pearls threaded one after another. More present on the wrist, it gives an elegant, feminine look.
  • The pearl and chain bracelet: the softness of pearls on one side, the shine of metal on the other. A more modern style, perfect for stacking.
  • The pearl and gemstone bracelet: pearls meet colourful natural gemstones. For women who love jewelry with character.

Dainty pearls, pearl strand or pearls and chain: what's the difference?

The single pearl bracelet, to get started

The Unique bracelet holds one white natural freshwater pearl on a chain of small grain-shaped gold-tone beads. You forget it during the day, yet it catches the light with every move. At €38, it is our most affordable pearl bracelet and a lovely first piece of pearl jewelry.

Same spirit, bolder look: the Océane bracelet pairs a chunky, graphic gold-tone Cuban chain with a natural freshwater pearl. The contrast between chain and pearl is all its charm. It adjusts with its extension chain.

The pearl strand, for elegance

The pearl strand is a classic, revisited. The Élisa bracelet lines up flat round natural freshwater pearls of 10 to 11 mm, separated by small gold-tone beads. It is handmade and adjusts with its extension chain. With the matching necklace, it makes a very soft set, perfect for a ceremony.

If you are looking for a dainty pearl bracelet, lighter on the wrist, choose the styles that mix small pearls and chain: they give the look of a strand without the weight.

The pearl and chain bracelet, for a modern style

Here, the pearls only cover part of the wrist. The Duo bracelet is half pearls, half chain: an asymmetric design that goes with everything. Our natural pearl and gold chain bracelet follows the same idea, with a very on-trend T-bar clasp. The Soé bracelet dares grey pearls with silvery reflections and gold-tone links decorated with spirals.

Bracelet with natural freshwater pearls and green cubic zirconia

A sparkling touch of green.

For a little sparkle, our natural freshwater pearl and green cubic zirconia bracelet adds a touch of colour that shines in the light. A pretty alternative to all-white pearls.

Want to see them all? They are gathered in our pearl bracelets collection.

Who is a pearl and gemstone bracelet for?

For women who find pearls a little too sensible, or who love colour. Pairing white pearls with natural gemstones creates a more vibrant, more personal piece. Every stone has its own shades, so no two bracelets are exactly alike.

Nour pearl bracelet: natural freshwater pearls, green ruby zoisite and gold-tone beads

Nour
White pearls and green ruby zoisite.

Noura bracelet with pearls, green natural gemstones and a flat centre pearl

Noura
A flat pearl in the centre, all softness.

Violette gold-tone bracelet with natural freshwater pearls and small faceted gemstones

Violette
Boho, with red, orange and black stones.

Handmade bracelet with multicoloured natural gemstones and a centre natural pearl

Handmade bracelet
Multicoloured stones and a centre pearl.

  • Nour mixes white pearls with ruby zoisite, a green natural gemstone flecked with red, set off by small gold-tone beads.
  • Noura brings together pearls and green natural gemstones around a flat centre pearl.
  • Violette pairs natural freshwater pearls with small red, orange and black faceted gemstones: a warm, boho bracelet.
  • Our handmade bracelet lines up multicoloured natural gemstones around a natural centre pearl.

These styles are perfect for stacking: a pearl and gemstone bracelet next to a single pearl bracelet, and your wrist tells a story. For even more colour, discover our natural gemstone bracelets.

How can you tell a real pearl bracelet?

A pearl forms when a mollusc coats an intruder with thin layers of nacre. This nacre gives the pearl its unique glow. The pearls in our bracelets are real natural freshwater pearls: each one is unique.

What makes a beautiful pearl

The GIA, the Gemological Institute of America, uses seven factors to judge a pearl: size, shape, colour, luster, surface quality, nacre quality and matching between the pearls of the same piece. For a bracelet, look mainly at:

  • Luster: a beautiful pearl reflects light softly, like a tiny mirror.
  • Matching: the pearls of a strand go well together without being perfect copies.
  • Shape: round for a classic look, flat or oval for more softness, irregular for more character.

Two simple tests

  • The tooth test: gently rub the pearl against your teeth. A real pearl feels slightly gritty, an imitation feels perfectly smooth.
  • The look: on a strand of real pearls, each one has small differences in shape and reflections.

Also be careful with words like "pearl effect" or "pearlescent": they often mean an imitation. At L'Or Didon, we only write "natural pearls" when they are real pearls, hand-assembled in Paris.

What size pearl bracelet should you choose?

A pearl bracelet that is too tight marks the wrist; too loose, it spins and slides onto the hand. The right size leaves room for one finger between the bracelet and your skin.

Measuring your wrist

  1. Take a tailor's tape measure, or a piece of string and a ruler.
  2. Wrap it around your wrist, just above the wrist bone, without pulling.
  3. Add 1 to 2 cm depending on the fit you like: 1 cm for a close fit, 2 cm for a bracelet that moves a little.

Good news: most of our pearl bracelets have an extension chain, so you can adjust them by a few centimetres. The Duo bracelet, for example, fits wrists from 16 to 18 cm. All the measurements are in our necklace length and bracelet size guide.

Which pearl size for your wrist?

On a slim wrist, small pearls and single pearl bracelets look very harmonious. On a wider wrist, go for bigger pearls like Élisa's, or a chunkier chain like Océane's: the piece keeps beautiful proportions.

How to wear a pearl bracelet every day

The pearl bracelet has lost its old-fashioned image. Today, we wear it with jeans, a knit sweater or an oversized shirt. Here are our favourite ideas.

Unique pearl bracelet worn with the matching Unique necklace

With the matching necklace, a subtle set.

Soé grey pearl bracelet worn with a white jacket

Soé, worn
On a white jacket, effortlessly chic.

  • On its own, for delicacy: a single pearl bracelet on a bare wrist, with a white shirt and rolled-up sleeves. Simple and luminous.
  • With a watch: a fine bracelet next to a gold-tone watch is the easiest stack.
  • Stacked: a single pearl bracelet, a pearl and gemstone bracelet and a thin gold-tone bangle. Vary the widths and keep one metal colour.
  • As a set: bracelet and necklace with the same name, like Unique, Élisa or Nour, for an outfit that looks thought through.

Gold-tone or silver-tone?

Gold warms up the white of pearls and feels more current. It is the choice for most of our pearl bracelets, in surgical stainless steel with an 18k gold finish. Soé's grey pearls also look beautiful with your silver-tone jewellery.

How to care for a pearl bracelet

Pearl is a soft, living material. With a few simple habits, your bracelet will keep its glow for years.

  • Last on, first off: put your bracelet on after cream, perfume and hand sanitiser, and take it off first at night.
  • Away from water: stainless steel doesn't mind water, but pearls prefer to be removed for the shower, washing up, the pool and the sea. Chlorine, salt and soap dull their luster.
  • A soft cloth: wipe the pearls with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
  • Stored separately: keep your bracelet flat in a soft pouch, away from other jewelry that could scratch the pearls.

As for the metal, our surgical stainless steel chains and clasps with an 18k gold finish won't tarnish. To understand why, read our article on stainless steel jewelry. All our jewelry comes with a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing without measuring your wrist: a few minutes with a tape measure saves you from a bracelet that pinches or slips.
  • Too many pearls at once: pearl bracelet, necklace, earrings and ring all together quickly looks too prim. Two pearl pieces are enough.
  • Confusing "pearlescent" with natural pearl: read the product description carefully before you buy.
